Join two specialist safari guides to explore the abundant wildlife and rugged landscapes of Zakouma National Park, one of Africa's last remaining wildernesses. The park is renowned for its exceptional birdlife, lion populations and crocodile-filled rivers. Step off the usual African safari trail to discover the wild, untamed landscapes of Zakouma National Park in Chad alongside two specialist safari guides. The Chadian government have committed to protecting the flora and fauna of the region so there is plenty of wildlife to see and photograph during your game drives and nature walks.
Day 1: Arrive N’Djamena
Upon arrival into N’Djamena International Airport, you will be met and transferred to La Residence Hotel where you’ll spend your first night.
Days 2 – 8: N’Djamena - Camp Nomade
Today after an early breakfast, you will fly by private charter to Zakouma National Park. From the airstrip you will take an introductory game drive to your base for the next week, the intimate and unique Camp Nomade. During the week, you will also head into less-explored region of the park along the Salamat River to enjoy a night or two fly-camping, giving us an opportunity to see more of the park and its wildlife. This experience is dependent on weather and local conditions, and as such is only finalised in camp with the group.
Zakouma National Park
Spend your days discovering Zakouma National Park with your naturalist guides and exploring the local area. The camp will be exclusive to you and your fellow travellers on this safari, which, combined with the use of two safari vehicles, gives you and your guides complete flexibility. Each day you will set out around sunrise - after a pre-breakfast of tea/coffee and biscuits - in search of game and an array of birdlife. Marvel at the clouds of millions of quelea birds as they set off through the early-morning skies and come into roost as you enjoy sundowners on the pans. Zakouma is also home to lion, giraffe, gazelle, elephant, Cape buffalo, Lelwel’s hartebeest, patas monkey and more. Depending on energy levels and animal activity in the vicinity of the camp, you’ll also be able to embark on night drives after dinner in search of the park’s nocturnal creatures, including the serval, civet and pale fox.
Day 9: Depart to N’Djamena
Today, the safari will end with a private charter flight back to N’Djamena where you’ll continue with your onward travel home.
Optional Add on to Ennedi
If you would like to extend your safari in Chad, we can arrange an extension to the magnificent Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve - a natural sandstone masterpiece - located in the north-east of Chad. Availability and pricing to be advised.
An exciting mobile camp in Zakouma National Park, managed by the non-profit organization, African Parks, on a long-term basis, to protect its wildlife and uplift the surrounding local communities for the ecological, financial, and social sustainability of the park. A Bedouin style camp that has all you need with 8 tents each with a bed, chest and clothes rack. Behind each tent there is a private bathroom with self-compost loo and bucket shower. The communal mess area of the camp is where you’ll spend your afternoon’s relaxing between game drives. The camp is solar powered and offers limited laundry. In the evening, the camp is lit by lanterns creating a romantic setting, reminiscent of bygone years.
