On this safari you will visit 3 different biomes: the vast Pantanal, mighty Amazon and little-known Cerrado and have a good chance to spot iconic wildlife such as jaguars, maned wolves, giant river otters, tapir and giant anteaters.
On arrival into Brasilia, you will be met and transferred to your lodge, about 5 hours away. Prepare for a long drive as you approach Parque Nacional Grande Sertăo Veredas, but as you approach this remote and little-travelled area of Brazil, you will start to see more and more birdlife on the side of the road. Possible sightings on the dirt road to the lodge include mammals such as tapir, coati, foxes, and even elusive wild cats. Spend the next 2 days exploring the extraordinary biodiversity of Brazil’s great savannah, the Cerrado. You'll be led on included bike and 4x4 tours to see amazing animals in thir wild natural habitat, such as jaguar, ocelot, armadillo, anteater, and maned wolf all under the threat of habitat loss in this area. There’s also the opportunity for kayaking on the River Formoso, bird watching (over 200 species) and night time safaris to find dwarf caiman among other nocturnal creatures.
Spend the next few days at a stunning eco-lodge that been built to harmonise with the surrounding forest, there is no better way to experience the Brazilian jungle. You might want to visit the 50-metre canopy tower, which gives you a bird’s eye view of this mighty rainforest. It is common to spot, monkeys, macaws and several species of birds. There are many trails that snake through various forests and habitats. There are over 500 species of birds and over 1800 different types of butterfly. There is also a mammal clay lick frequented by tapirs, peccaries, giant anteaters among other mammals. A 6-metre screened treehouse has been erected for ease of viewing. Boat rides, or canoeing along the Cristalino River give another opportunity to spot animals in the canopy and a floating deck on the river is great for swimming or resting when you’re not out looking for wildlife. The guides at Cristalino have a tremendous amount of knowledge and will ensure you make the most of all these wildlife opportunities.
The area is home to hundreds of species of mammals, birds and reptiles and offers you the best chance of seeing jaguars in the wild. A well-respected jaguar conservation project is also based here and you will get the chance to see their work from up-close. Activities include photographic safaris in specially adapted vehicles, guided walks, canoeing and night safaris.
