Located in the north-west region of the Republic of the Congo, discover two unique camps inside the pristine Odzala-Kokoua National Park, and a third on a private concession bordering the national park. This is a lowland rainforest characterised by a network of bais, rivers, marshes and swamps. This vast and truly wild region, with its wide range of landscapes and habitat, is home to an incredible diversity of life. Forest elephant, leopard, bongo, forest buffalo, giant forest hog and hippo live alongside the greatest density of western lowland gorilla in Africa.
After arriving into Brazzaville, you will take a scheduled light aircraft flight today from Brazzaville to Ngaga Camp to begin your lowland gorilla safari.
Wake at dawn to begin your day with a light breakfast before setting off at 6am for your first gorilla trek. Depending on the location of the gorillas, treks can vary in length from just two hours to a full day. Once you locate the gorillas enjoy the moment and quietly capture these incredible creatures on camera. In the afternoon, take a guided walk to discover the forest life and birdlife ending at the river for sundowners. After dinner you have the chance to go out again with your guide on a night walk to look out for some rare nocturnal creatures.
Continue your onward journey to Lango Camp and bai via a kayak trip on the Lekoli River. Watch from your vantage point out into the marshy bai in front of camp which attracts huge flocks of African green pigeon and African grey parrots, and at night, forest elephants. Participate in a discover bai walk and look out for the multitude of resident bird species that make this forest their home. The diverse array of pristine habitats in the area host nearly 2560 species. Take some time for relaxation or opt to go for a river cruise on the Lekoli River or a guided forest walk.
Explore the beauty of the Mboko area of Odzala National Park. Enjoy daily river cruises, kayaking excursions along the Lekoli river, and forest walks. In this area of lush meadow-like savanna forest buffalo, forest elephant and spotted hyena are frequently seen. As well as spotting wildlife either on foot, boat or vehicle enjoy the smaller details, such as seasonal flowers and butterflies and colobus monkeys and grey parrot in the tree canopies. Near the edge of the park there is the chance to visit the nearby villages and interact with the local people.
