Join wildlife and travel photographer Steve Winter on this immersive safari into the heart of Brazil’s Pantanal wetlands, in search of the elusive jaguar. Explore the winding, wildlife-rich waterways of the Three Brothers, Cuiabá and Piquiri Rivers by boat, observing giant river otters, capybaras and jaguars relaxing or hunting on the river banks. Steve will be on hand throughout your trip to provide hands-on guidance and expertise on capturing the perfect wildlife image.
You will be met by your guide at Cuiabá Airport and you will depart for your transfer to South Wild Lodge. You will travel along the Transpantaneira Highway, a 145 kilometre long dirt road that leads south through the heart of the Pantanal ending at the Cuiabá River in Porto Jofre. As you enter the Transpantaneira Highway you start to see families of capybaras, pools of caiman and flocks of water birds and raptor. Arrive at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge and before dinner, watch the sunset by the nearby ocelot hide for a chance to photograph this elusive wildcat up close.
After breakfast, you will be transferred from SouthWild Pantanal Lodge to Porto Jofre and onwards by boat to the Jaguar Flotel. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon boat-outing before spending your night at the Jaguar Flotel. Spend the next 3 days exploring and searching for jaguars and other wildlife. Lead by your expert photographer, Steve Winter, enjoy two boat outings per day returning to the lodge for lunch. Jaguars are often seen during the heat of the day sunning themselves on the river banks. This is the best place in the world to see these elusive cats in the wild. Following your excursions, you will head back to the Flotel where you will be able to relax, edit some photos, and discuss your images with Steve, in the hopes of improving your shots each day.
Transfer back downriver to Porto Jofre and back north along the Transpantaneira Highway in a closed airconditioned vehicle. After lunch at the lodge, you will be taken out by your guides by safari truck or boat in an attempt to capture a few final shots to complete your portfolio of Pantanal images. This is the last chance to put into practice all that you have learned from Steve throughout your trip, before relaxing for a final dinner with your group and a night safari with a chance to spot tapir, anteater, fox, deer and more.
SouthWild Pantanal
Set deep in Brazil's northern Pantanal, on the banks of the Pixaim River, the SouthWild Pantanal is a wonderfully hospitable lodge. With an emphasis on the local wildlife, expert guides lead daily excursions to view giant river otters, tapirs, macaws, howler monkeys and much more.
Southwild Jaguar Flotel
The Southwild Jaguar Flotel, is a floating hotel based in the Northern Pantanal. Due to the nomadic style of the accommodation the chances of seeing the famous Jaguar are increased dramatically. During the daytime cats can be as close as 3-5 metres from the boat itself.
