OCT - MAR
Explore wild Patagonia in search of pumas and other wildlife and enjoy the luxury of the region's best accommodation with the rare addition of private helicopter transfers over the outstanding scenery, connecting you across this vast landscape. This wonderful safari ventures through the stunning Torres del Paine National Park with expert guides and photographers, some of which are the most qualified locals in terms in tracking, approximation and photography of the fauna in the region. Staying at the incredible Explora Patagonia, head out each day to explore the park in search of its wonderful wildlife and extraordinary landscapes.
Arrive at Punta Arenas airport where you will be met by a representative to escort you to your private helicopter transfer that will take you to Pueblito Serrano where you’ll connect with a 35 minute land transfer the rest of the way. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a leisurely tour of the National Park, where you can admire the jaw dropping beauty of the snow-capped peaks, glacial blue lakes and get a glimpse of the first signs of wildlife – the guanaco, the favourite food of the elusive puma.
The next 4 days are dedicated to photographing the wildlife and wilderness of Torres del Paine National Park. The goal is to photograph the Andean puma, and a dedicated tracking team sets off before you rise each morning in search of this majestic yet extremely elusive creature. The trackers keep us informed of any sightings by radio. Meanwhile, you enjoy photographing the sunrise while enjoying breakfast and hot coffee on the go.Most days begin close to camp, taking advantage of the stunning morning light and any animal activity. You will spend approximately six hours viewing and photographing the native wildlife of the park. You are likely to observe culpeo foxes, the mighty Andean condor, guanacos, and we hope to view the puma and the endangered huemul (South Andean deer). In the afternoons, after the peak sun hours and little wildlife activity, you may head to the western parts of the park. Here you have the opportunity to capture some of the more iconic landmarks such as Grey’s Glacier and The Horns while waiting for news from the trackers. Watch the sun setting over the Paine massive before returning to your comfortable hotel.
Enjoy your final morning at leisure before it’s time to transfer back to Pueblito Serrano for your helicopter flight to Punta Arenas airport in time to catch an evening flight.
Explora Patagonia
Contrasting the vertical form of Macizo del Paine, Explora Patagonia has been built horizontally; a long building painted to blend with its surroundings of mainly white snow and ice. On the banks of the Salto Chico waterfall, alive with an exquisite blend of absurdly beautiful turquoises and blues, it has amazing views of the Paine Massif and two out of the three Torres (towers) from which the national park gets its name. With lots of inviting areas to relax, from the heated indoor swimming pool to the open air Jacuzzi’s, this is a wonderful place to enjoy, not just the breathtaking landscapes, but the gaucho culture too.
