Lisa LaPointe

EXPEDITION LEADER

Lisa grew up in Michigan and Ohio, spending summers on and around the Great Lakes. Influenced by an immersion in woods and water, she completed a degree in biology at the University of Michigan in 2001. Since then she has lived, worked, or traveled on all seven continents, finding special connection with the polar regions.

In 2013, Lisa began working on liveaboard ships, first as a guide swimming with humpback whales in the Dominican Republic, then later as a naturalist and whale watch captain in Alaska and California. She has also spent considerable time working on expedition teams from the Arctic to the Antarctic and many destinations in between. Thousands of days at sea have nourished a pas¬sion for the marine environment and a love for sharing it with others. While her specialty is marine mammals, she also has a strong affinity for birds and general ecology.

In addition to lecturing and serving as a naturalist, Lisa is a professional photographer and instructor and has led photographic workshops to destinations around the world. When not working, Lisa can often be found in the back-country, exploring wild places from her California home.
