Luxury Pantanal and Amazon Wildlife Safari

Explore the depths of the Brazilian Pantanal and Amazonian rainforest, scouring for wildlife from capybara and caiman to the elusive jaguars before embarking upon Iguassu Falls. Spend two days experiencing the sights and sounds of the Amazon jungle, and spend three days exploring and searching for jaguars and giant otters on the Three Brothers, Cuiaba, and Piquiri Rivers.You’ll also have the chance to spend a full day with the Oncafari team. You will follow the team of jaguar experts and biologists from dusk until dawn as they track the elusive cats and monitor their wellbeing. You’ll learn about the re-wilding efforts taken on by these dedicated conservationists here in the Pantanal. Visit Iguassu Falls via both sides. The Argentinian side of Iguassu Falls is very extensive, and take a guided tour of the Argentinian National Park, then take a guided tour of the Brazilian side of Iguassu Falls for a more panoramic view.

What to expect

Southern Amazon

Arriving into Sao Paolo airport, you will connect with an onward flight to Cuiaba, and then to Alta Floresta, the small and dusty gateway to the Southern Amazon. Spend the next 2 days experiencing the sights and the sounds of jungle, you might want to visit the 50-metre canopy tower, which gives you a bird’s eye view of this mighty rainforest. It is common to spot, monkeys, macaws and several species of birds. There are many trails that snake through various forests and habitats. There are over 500 species of birds and over 1800 different types of butterfly. On the rocky trail there is a mammal clay lick frequented by tapirs, peccaries, giant anteaters among other mammals. A 6-metre screened treehouse has been erected for ease of viewing. Boat rides, or canoeing along the Cristalino River give another opportunity to spot animals in the canopy and a floating deck above the river is great for swimming or resting when you’re not out looking for wildlife.

Northern Pantanal Jaguar Viewing

Around 09:30, you continue your adventure continuing south down the Transpantaneira Highway to Porto Jofre. En route you will have the chance to stop and enjoy the views and look out for the resident wildlife. Stop for lunch on the way before continuing your journey. Jaguars are often spotted in this area. They are often seen along the final 35 kilometres of the road before getting to Jofre so keep a keen eye glued to the road for possible sightings. On arrival to your riverside hotel, settle in a relax for the evening. Your jaguar expedition begins tomorrow! Spend the next 3 days exploring and searching for jaguars and giant otters on Three Brothers, Cuaiba and Piquiri Rivers. Enjoy two private boat outings per day often returning to the lodge for lunch. The Jaguars are often seen during the heat of the day sunning themselves on the river banks. This is the best place in the world to see these elusive cats in the wild. Following your excursions, you will head back to the hotel where you will be able to relax by the pool.

Southern Pantanal

You’ll also have the chance to spend a full day with the Oncafari team, a team of jaguar experts and biologist from dusk until dawn as they track the elusive cats and monitor their wellbeing. You’ll learn about the re-wilding efforts taken on by these dedicated conservationists here in the Pantanal, but also since recently in the Amazon. The best time to view the wildlife and birds is during the cooler hours of the mornings and afternoons. Activities include photographic safaris in specially adapted vehicles, guided walks, canoeing, night safaris.

Iguassu Falls

This morning you will be transferred overland back to Campo Grande airport, in time for your included flight to Iguassu Falls. You are taken on a guided tour of the Brazilian side, estimated to be 275 different waterfalls dotted around the tropical forests. The Brazilian side of the falls offers a more panoramic view putting into perspective their sheer size and scale. The Argentinian side of the falls is very extensive compared to Brazil, with many paths taking you to within touching distance of the falls. You will also travel to the furthest point and the largest and most spectacular of all of the cascades - The Devil's Throat.
