A private safari with expert guide to see the grizzlies of Taku River exclusively whilst staying at T'a Ish Adventures Lodge. A spectacular, private itinerary with up to just 8 guests at a time. Phil Timpany will be your highly trained and knowledgeable guide as you explore the pristine wilderness and wonderful wildlife surrounding the Taku River, near the Yukon border in British Columbia. Within this area of 4 million acres there are no roads to distract you as you scour for grizzly bears whilst they fatten up for the cold winter months on spawning salmon.
From Whitehorse there is a scenic 2 hour transfer to Atlin where you will be met by helicopter and flown to base camp. After a safety briefing and orientation, you will begin your quest in the largest pristine watershed of the Western Hemisphere. The grizzlies are usually found fishing for salmon as they return to the place they were born up the Nakina River.
Throughout your three days here you will co-exist with the grizzly bears, watch them as the sun rises over breakfast, hunting for salmon up and down the river as eagles swoop above you hoping for a catch of their own. Learn all about the bears, their social behaviour, the seasons of the river, the adaptations that make them so good at what they do. Bears are common in close range to the lodge, but if they’re not there they won’t be too far off…
On your final day, you will bid farewell to Nakina River and catch a helicopter flight after breakfast, back to Atlin. From here you will be transferred to the Whitehorse Airport for your onward flight.
T'a ish Adventure Lodge is an ideal rustic spot from which to view the grizzly bears. Immersed in the true wilderness of British Columbia, they often congregate around the camp itself, brimming with curiosity about their new visitors.
