Ultimate Patagonia Puma Tracking Safari

An exclusive small-group puma tracking safari with Torres del Paine as a majestic backdrop. Track these big cats during Patagonian spring-summer, the best time to see them in the Chilean wilderness, while staying in comfortable accommodation. Based in the unique geodesic domes of Eco Camp Patagonia, and with breath-taking scenery on your doorstep, even if the puma eludes us, there is still plenty to see in this impressive part of Patagonia.

What to expect

Your adventure starts and ends in Punta Arenas airport, you will be met by your guide and driver who will transfer you to and from Ecocamp Patagonia. Each day you head out with your expert tracker and experienced guide for the unique opportunity to track the elusive South American pumas in Torres del Paine National Park. The air is cold as you traverse the wild south in search of these fascinating big cats in their natural environment. During your journey you can explore caves and witness ancient paintings, witness impressive rock formations and watch out for other wildlife of the region, including the mighty Andean condor, guanacos, grey and culpeo foxes, the southern caracara, and other birds including upland geese, black-faced ibis, Chilean flamingos and more.

Puma Tracking is also possible in Patagonia's winter months.

Puma Tracking

Puma Tracking at Entre Porterias

Entre Porterias, located between the two eastern entrances of the park, is a favourite foraging ground for guanaco during the winter. These mammals, relatives of the Andean llama, congregate here in the winter for protection from the wind and snow. Consequently, pumas gather here too. Hopefully you’ll also see grey and culpeo foxes, Andean condor, southern caracara, and a series of other birds including upland geese, black-faced ibis and Chilean flamingos. In our search for the puma, we’ll explore a series of caves and shelters, on the walls of which we also find ancient paintings of native Tehuelche tribes that lived in the area in centuries past.

Puma Tracking at Sarmiento Lake

Your excursions here will take you along the western edge of the lake in search of puma families and solitary adults; often spotted in this area during the quieter winter months. You can also expect to see an abundance of other wildlife, including upland and ashy-headed geese, spectacled ducks and huge condors.
